Southern California Birding Excursions

Bolsa Chica Wetlands Preserve

Located less than an hour from Downtown Los Angeles in Huntington Beach, this state wildlife preserve is home to hundreds of resident and migratory species.  Join Carl for a two-hour, half-day or full-day walking photo safari. You might encounter Falcons, Ospreys, Herons, Grebes, Pelicans, and many varieties of ducks and geese as they forage for plants, hunt for fish — and sometimes each other. Expect dozens of species on any given day.

San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in Irvine, this marshland of over 300 acres is one of the best birding locations in southern California. It provides a variety of ponds and riparian areas in a protected environment. Home to the Sea & Sage Audubon Society, the site enjoys a year-round roster of seasonal migrants, Raptors, Waterfowl, Swallows and Swifts. Carl will take you to the best vantage points and guide you toward observing and capturing many species and their intrinsic behaviors.  Two to three hours, half-day or full-day walking photo safaris available.

Huntington Central Park

With a large lake and marshy hollows, this public park, located alongside the Huntington Beach Public Library, is a popular birder destination with many native, seasonal migrant and exotic bird species. From darting Hummingbirds to Great Horned owls, resident raptors (three hawk species) and a variety of waterfowl.  Discover many of the species this beautiful park has to offer with Carl on a two-hour, half day or full-day walking photo safari.
